Finding funding as a student start-up can often be challenging. Never having run a business before, it’s often hard to know where to look. Thankfully our office is currently part of the hot desk space provided by the University of the West of England, Student Ventures. This under-graduate incubator houses a collection of student businesses from across the all of the UWE campuses, making it a great environment to meet other people in a similar situation.
Another benefit of being part of this community is the access to free business support and advice from the staff in Student Ventures. All of this is great until you need to fund your project, thankfully the support doesn’t stop at just advice. There are also opportunities to apply for different types of funding.
This year Rose Industries has been accepted onto the Summer Scholarship scheme. This Scholarship is supported and funded by Santander Universities UK, and it provides the qualifying students £1000 to get started on their project. For us this means we can start to buy some of the off the shelf components to start testing our design theories before we start building our own bespoke devices.
As well as the funding the each scholarship student is assigned a mentor to help guide them through their project, helping achieve their goals and keep on target.
Our focus for this scholarship is to make a start on a new project that we look forward to unveiling in the not too distant future and connect with more people that work with in the ever growing industry of Medical Technology.
